IPL is Intense Pulsed Light, also known as
photorejuvenation or photofacial. Intense pulse
light therapy requires virtually no downtime while
it rejuvenates the skin and restores a youthful
glow. As skin ages its texture becomes rougher and
brown spots and capillaries(tiny
blood vessels) develop. IPL is able
to improve skin texture, reduce brown spots, erase
broken capillaries, and diminish the flushing and
redness associated with rosacea.
IPL works by emitting an intense light that passes
through the top layer of skin (the epidermis) and
penetrates to the deeper layer (dermis) where blood
vessels, melanin, and collagen are found. The
intense light heats up the melanin and small blood
vessels causing them to break down or rupture. Over
the following 2-3 weeks, brown spots or freckles
will darken and then flake off, and tiny red veins
will shrink and be reabsorbed by the body. Warming
of the dermis stimulates some collagen production
causing an increase in skin smoothness and a
decrease in the appearance of fine lines and pores.

Before and After Pictures:
A series of 4
to 5 IPL treatments is recommended
for best results but we do offer single treatments
as well. Any area can be treated including face,
neck, chest, hands, back, arms and legs. Most
patients describe treatment sensation as “a snapping
rubberband” or "a warm flash.”
IPL therapy for the full face may take 20 minutes.
There is no down time with this treatment. Patients
are able to return to work and resume all regular
activities immediately.
